Endowment spending - Make your plan work for you
An endowment fund is used to supplement the current funding available to the organization, as well as be a source of funding available to supplement future annual budgets in a similar fashion. An organization's success with its endowment efforts are impacted by investment performance, the impact of inflation, future endowment gifts to be received, operation changes, and its endowment spending policy.

Got committees? Add one more to your list
How many committees does a nonprofit organization really need? There are finance committees, investment committees, grant committees, budget committees, compensation committees, and more. Due to increased public scrutiny raised by several highly publicized corporate accounting scandals, at some point your nonprofit organization may be legally required to add one more, if it doesn't already have one: the audit committee.

Don't leave well enough alone: Institute a wellness program
Health care costs rose more than two times the rate of inflation in 2006, according to a survey by the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation. For example, according to the National Coalition on Health Care, in 2006 organizations with fewer than 24 employees saw their premiums increase 10.5%. Employers must continue to find ways to cut costs to both the organization and their employees.

The last time IRS Form 990 was substantially revised, Jimmy Carter was living in the White House. Much has changed since then. So it only makes sense that not-for-profits are getting a new Form 990 that better suits the information needs of the public. The article describes the new document.

NEWS FOR NONPROFITS
